How are Krewes financed?

Carnival clubs are chartered as non-profit organizations. The cost of putting on a parade is expensive. The Krewe has to pay all city fees, police charges and clean up, plus have insurance in case of any mishaps. They are financed by dues, by the sale of Krewe emblemed merchandise to the members, and by fund-raising projects. Most Mardi Gras Krewes are also actively involved in charitable work.
